Wednesday Wisdom: Change in the air

The dog days of summer are done.

So I'm trying to not panic.

Read on for a way to find peace with seasonal and life changes.

Reality check

I can get used to the cold of winter, even long dark nights. But the grey skies that hover over this part of Montana during the day for oh, I dunno, 6-8 months . . . Imagine living in a room with low hanging ceilings and fluorescent lights. That's winter in this part of Montana.

So I tend to mourn the end of summer before it actually ends.

It's not just about the weather, of course.

I need to make some changes in my life, which seem at least as hard as winter. But just like spring eventually rolls around again, I know I'll get through the changes and life will bloom in amazing ways. But I'm in the grey, messy middle zone of change so . . .

If I'm not feeling peace inside, a string of grey days (or months) amplifies that.

That's why I have been preparing for changes in my life and the seasons by using this a peace remedy.

(More remedies to follow in upcoming weeks, so stay tuned.)

Helping hand

  • Think about a time when someone helped you. Whatever comes to mind first, if it was from years ago or today. Big help or small kindness.
  • Soak in appreciation for their support.
  • Optional: Offer support to someone in need.

For now, that's it. Just remember HELP. People have helped you. Savor that. Help someone if you can.

This is a peace practice.

Thanks for your patience in past weeks with this email. I haven't been so regular with Wednesday Wisdoms and I have been considering changing it to Whenever Wisdom and send it whenever I get that peaceful feeling I want to share. I'll let you know if I make that switch.

Remember, savor the help you've received, and give back in some way when you can.

Thanks for some of your precious time and attention today.

In peace,

Juniper

This email was sent from Missoula, Montana so . . .

Thank you to the First Nations of what is now called Western Montana: the Bitterroot Séliš (Salish), the Ql̓ispé (Kalispel), and the Ksanka (Kootenai) - you can read more about all 3 nations on their website.

I also want to give thanks to the Amskapi Piikani (Blackfeet) and the Apsáalooke (Crow) First Nations because I’ve been to and enjoyed their traditional homelands in recent years. Many thanks for your hospitality.
